‘It’s never-ending. The apostasy, the lack of discernment, the gullibility. How can anyone who proclaims the name of Jesus Christ not recognize the dismal state of the professing church? Words cannot even begin to describe the how far away the church is from Christ in these days.’
So begins yet another rant against a woman in ministry, this time Kari Jobe, a gifted and popular singer-songwriter and worship leader.
The negativity of these critics is astounding. Because it seems they cannot stand anything that remotely resembles success in the Church, or joy in the House of God, or people gathering in large crowds to corporately worship God, they come up with the most ridiculous doctrinal errors, such as ‘Words cannot even begin to describe the how far away the church is from Christ in these days’.
What nonsense. Jesus isn’t strong enough, obviously, in the eyes and mind of chookwatcher and his fellow pseudonyms, to carry out His promise to finish the work He began.
He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. What He has begun He will surely complete.
How can the Church be far away from the Head of the Church? He is the Head. We are the Body. We are directly attached to Him.
Hear what Jesus said to the Father in prayer.
John 17:9-11 “I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.”
How, then could the Church possibly be far away from Him? We are not. We are in Him. He is in us through His Spirit. He said that He and the Father would come and dwell with us through the Spirit. He is with us, in us and upon us through His Spirit. We have been given the guarantee of the Spirit. We are in the Body. We are of Him.
John 17:14-21 “I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.
I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.”
We are one in Christ who is One with the Father.
The Church is not in a dismal state. Jesus is bringing her on to perfection as a chaste Bride. Jesus is building His Church. He has said that the Gates of Hades will not prevail against the Church.
We are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, far above all principality, and power, and dominion, and rulership, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but in the age to come. Far above. In Him. Now and forever.
Ephesians 1:22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
The Church is the fulness of Him who fills all in all. He is the Head. We are the Body. Doesn’t sound to me like there is anything dismal about the relationship between Christ and His Church.
Further, we have been given the keys to the kingdom. We are entrusted with the ministry Jesus had when He walked the earth. The Book of Acts is filled with stories of the exploits of the saints of God who obeyed the Word and lived in the Promise of the Spirit to take the gospel to the known world. They touched every part of the world with the good news.
Negative viewpoint of anonymous critics
Critics like the chookwatchers are always looking for something negative to jump on, so that they keep their preposterously pompous and discordant sites going.
If anything is showing signs of being in a dismal state it is the unwittingly antichristian so-called discernment sites that have hardly anything good to say about Christians in ministry.
And, it seems, they specialise in castigating women in ministry. They do not believe women have any place in ministry.
I don’t say that they hate women, which is an extreme interpretation of misogyny, but that they have an aversion to women in positions of responsibility in the Church which manifests as rejection of those who do stand in various offices, whereby their language suggests that they want to shut down and silence women with leadership roles.
Even the females in the chookwatcher clan, who are very vocal, by the way, appear to want women to be discouraged from ministering the good news in public places, or leading people to Christ, or prophesying, or teaching new converts. They want them to be prevented from entering the call of God on their lives.
The women on chookwatcher sites, under the cover of anonymity, seek to undermine and usurp the authority of male leaders in the churches that are scrutinised by chookwatcher, yet they come against any woman who speaks about Jesus in a public place.
Paul tells us that there is neither male nor female, meaning we are all equal in the sight of God. Chookwatcher interprets this to mean there are no women of any consequence, only men, evidently. They have legalised women out of the Body.
Female atheist exalted
And yet, get this – one of his main sources is a female atheist whose books he has promoted on the front pages of his sites, and whose opinion is sought out, blog quoted, and articles reproduced.
He has even stated that, even though she is an atheist, she is more astute in her criticism of churches than people who attend them. Yes, an ex-christian who rejected Christ and became an atheist is now considered a better teacher than proven ministers who have remained faithful to Christ.
Thus he elevates an atheist woman to the level of teacher and critic whilst condemning any and all women who stand before people and pronounce a Christian message of hope, or lead worship, or encourage other women in the faith.
The double standard being displayed is incredible.
God calls and anoints women
Kari Jobe is a talented and effervescent worship leader. She is anointed. God has gifted her with an angelic voice and an ability to write songs that lead congregations into praise and worship. She draws people into intimate worship of a loving God.
She is an example of the great things God is doing in and through the Church.
Chookwatcher is so blinded by his desperate need to defame anyone and anything that is on his growing list of targets that he can no longer see or hear good when it enters the room. Everything has to be broken down to examine it for faults. His micromanagement of every syllable anyone speaks or utters means he can’t see the wood for the trees, misses the point most of the time, and is captured by the fine detail of the letter of the law, failing to catch the Spirit of the Word.
He is also a wannabe worship leader. Maybe that has something to do with it. If he keeps practicing and puts his focus on God not people he’ll get there in the end, but not if he has such a critical spirit that God can’t use him in ministry. How can anyone be that judgmental of other Christians and hope to be used of God to lead worship?
It doesn’t make any sense at all.
God bless Kari Jobe and her ministry. She does know how to centre her life on worshipping God in Spirit and in truth. I pray she keeps her heart above all things, for out of it are the issues of life.
Let her songs of praise go on.
