It is very clear that chookwatcher has very much removed himself from his original plan of operation to be come a polemic conspiracist.
Initially, this site, c3chookwatchwatch, was a response to chookwatcher’s questionable claims against C3 and their leadership, and then, later on, Hillsong. Since then, chookwatcher has extended his range to include just about every successful contemporary ministry.
Now that chookwatcher has broadened his sphere to include a range of relatively unknown ministries and a list of people who are more involved in prophecy ministries than, for the most part, overseeing charismatic or Pentecostal movements, it has become something of a pointless exercise tracking the extraordinary claims he continues to make.
Recently, apart from the hilarious saga of the apology and removal of comments and the subsequent lack of necessity for moderators, I have been looking into the strange doctrine of Reformed and Lutheran cessationists who are frequently given front page news by chookwatcher.
But the whole thing comes down to investigating people enshrined in wrong doctrine and pushing conspiracy theories and contrived narratives. There are some effective sites that refute their folly, so I will, for now, leave it to them.
When chookwatcher started up there was a clear-cut attempt at defaming bona-fide ministers, movements and churches, but he has morphed into very strange and indemonstrable claims revolving around a warped take on the histories of the Pentecostal and charismatic movements, manipulated to provide fodder for chookwatcher’s great need of controversy.
Along the way he has featured atheists, current affairs gossip programs, anti-christian journalists, tweets, and anyone, really, who opposes the same people he does.
Meanwhile the cessationists he channels are posting ever-ridiculous articles that degrade the role of the Holy Spirit in the Church. They have all but eliminated the need of the work of the Holy Spirit in the Body, despite Christ’s promises and Paul’s teaching.
In supposedly championing Sola Scriptura, the cessationists remove scripture to suit their false dogma. The irony is emphatic.
These are the modern day philosophical conspiracists we were warned about in Colossians 2:8.
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.
They teach half truths as fact, and set up false trails of innuendo that lead to error.
There is no longer a reason for this site to be bothered with chookwatcher. His initial interest in Australian churches and movements has been overtaken by his journey into the Reformed cessationist error, whilst, in style, he is little more than a gossip columnist for the doubters.
Now his antipathy towards Pentecostals and charismatics is generic rather than specific and has become so filled with conspiratorial speculation that it is no longer expedient to waste time on it.
He has sold out to those who replace the work of the Holy Spirit with the work of the flesh, and bewitch weak Christians with high sounding eisegisis.
Galatians 3:1-3 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?
They forget the true gospel and adopt a watered down version that turns its back on the power and wonder of the Holy Spirit. They deny miracles, healing, the gifts and manifestations, making them historical rather than current, and thus claim the Spirit is no longer essential to our walk of faith. They reject Christ’s promise of the Spirit. They place a heart of stone in the way of the Spirit.
They are like the Galatians who were so easily pulled away from their first love and drawn back into a regulatory, legalistic form of the Word rather than the truth that comes by the Spirit and the Word.
Galatians 3:5-7 Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham.
They are not alone. There are many like them who oppose the Spirit and anyone who is filled with the Spirit. They do not understand the Spirit so they have developed a doctrine that excludes Him from His own Word.
The movements chookwatcher first opposed have moved on and are still preaching the full gospel. They have not rejected the Word and Spirit, and continue to bless and be blessed. There is still much work to be done.
John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
In light of the fact that anti-pastor sites like groupsects have now effectively shut down, and the chookwatcher blogs have been disarmed as comments sections, their meagre importance has shrunk, so I will be revising future posts here rather than wasting time on those who have determined to deny the work of the Spirit in the Church.
The chookwatch sites have all but been shut down now that comments are cut off, and the focus has shifted to their central site, which, again, has no comments, like the sites chookwatcher champions. Their effectiveness has been seriously diminished.
2017 promises to be a great year of growth for ministries that are faithful to the call of God and do not reject either the Word or Spirit, giving glory to God the Father.
God bless the faithful in Christ.
